The former Chief Whip of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to adopt compassionate governance amid the harsh economic realities in Nigeria.

The former Abia State governor spoke yesterday while responding to a question about the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo State governorship election over the weekend amid economic hardship that has eroded the economic power of many Nigerians.

He commended Tinubu for his courage in implementing bold economic reforms even when he admitted the reforms had come with hardship.

Kalu credited the APC’s success to the hard work of its leaders, stating that the party’s organisation and numbers on the ground were key to its victory.

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District offered profound reflections on life’s fleeting nature and the certainty of death.

Responding to another poser over the many deaths that have befallen prominent Igbo sons in recent times, he said: “Nobody can predict death; I was born to die, and I will die to be born. As you are born, people die.” He emphasised that everyone, regardless of status or achievements, will eventually face death. “I am prepared for death. I am ready to die today if it comes,” he added.

Kalu, who has been the subject of false reports about his demise, humorously debunked the rumours but used the moment to speak candidly about mortality.

His statement underscored his belief in the impermanence of life and the importance of death with preparedness.

Kalu’s reflections on life’s transience were a reminder that, regardless of success or power, death remains a certainty for all.

Addressing the ongoing economic challenges, he acknowledged the sacrifices he’s made, including grounding his private jet to save costs. “People are suffering,” Kalu said, highlighting the need to pay workers in his company amid the economic downturn.
