A governorship aspirant in Oyo State  and United Kingdom-based human rights activist, Mogaji Niyi Aborisade, has described the political climate in the state ahead of the 2027 general election as uncertain, citing internal challenges across major political parties.

Aborisade said neither the ruling party nor the opposition could be said to have gained a clear advantage as political realignments and unresolved internal issues continued to shape the state’s political landscape.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Ibadan, the legal practitioner noted that while the ruling party was contending with its own challenges, the ADC had yet to produce a governorship candidate, making the political environment fluid.

“The political climate in Oyo State is uncertain for every political party. Even the ruling party is not certain of its position. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has internal challenges, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is also facing issues, particularly because no candidate has emerged,” he said.

According to him, his immediate concern is for the ADC to resolve its internal issues and present what he described as a credible candidate ahead of the election.

Aborisade, however, hinted that he might reconsider his membership of the party if the current situation persists.

“The way the party is being run is no longer encouraging. When I joined, the party had great momentum, and together we raised its profile. Unfortunately, personal interests and ego have begun to undermine its progress. Unless things change, I believe many members may leave the party,” he said.

On the 2027 presidential election, the governorship aspirant said he had yet to endorse any aspirant, stressing that political party membership did not automatically translate into support for a particular presidential candidate.

“I have not publicly declared my preferred presidential candidate. In a democracy, everyone has the right to make a personal choice. When the time is right, I will make my position known,” he stated.

Aborisade also expressed confidence in his own political ambition, saying he remained convinced that he would emerge victorious in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election because, according to him, many aspirants had yet to present convincing programmes to the electorate. ” My emergence as a governor in 2027 will shock many people in Nigeria and they will realise and acknowledge  that there is God that reigns over the affairs of men”, he said.
