The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom Ikimi, has reassured party members that all petitions will be addressed with fairness and resolve.

In the wake of internal strife following the 2023 presidential election, the PDP has encountered numerous disagreements among its members. Some have accused fellow party members of undermining the party’s interests and have called for disciplinary measures against those deemed in violation.

To address these issues, the PDP National Working Committee established the disciplinary committee on August 21, allowing members to submit petitions, hear from both sides, and make recommendations to the National Executive Committee (NEC).

In a statement released on Saturday, Ikimi expressed confidence that the committee’s commitment to fairness, firmness, and decisiveness would help restore trust and confidence within the party, addressing the concerns of its many members nationwide.

The statement, which included details about the committee’s recent activities, said: The statement read in part, “Following the inauguration of the National Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the NDC held its preliminary meetings on August 21, 2024, September 28, 2024 and September 30, 2024, in preparation for its very sensitive and challenging assignment.

“As the NDC sets to commence its sitting/hearing, and while looking forward to the receipt of petitions and complaints from aggrieved members, through the National Working Committee NWC, or as may be appropriately brought to its notice, the NDC, hereby assures the generality of party members, including the PDP leadership and all stakeholders, of its preparedness to deal with all complaints/petitions fairly, firmly and transparently and all by, and obedience to the dictates of the PDP constitution which has spelt out the offences and sanctions.

“We are hopeful that our fairness, firmness, and decisiveness will restore the hope and confidence of our great party to meet the expectations of our teeming membership nationwide and the suffering Nigerian public that is desperate now for an appropriate National Leadership.

“We therefore urge all members of the PDP and its leadership to give the committee the support and cooperation necessary to carry out its assignment successfully.”
