Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately release information on the number of registered voters per state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as the number of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) collected.

According to a statement made available to The Guardian, Agbaje believes “this is something INEC ought to have done shortly before the first vote is cast, to avoid giving mischief-makers opportunity to rig.

“Once this information is released, the remainder is secured and verified by civil society organisations (CSOs), security agencies and the international community (observers, embassies, etc).“This is a primary way to check rigging because the PVCs unaccounted for are their primary rigging materials and what they use in court to back up their crime. INEC should publish the number of uncollected PVCs and deduct same from number of registered voters to enable the world know how many people are qualified to vote.”
