Rivers council elections not postponed – RSIEC chair
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has debunked news circulating on social media, claiming that the Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, had announced the postponement of the October 5, 2024, Local Government Elections.
The electoral commission said the Chairman never made such a statement and describes the article as “false, baseless, and unfounded”.
Justice Enebeli in a statement reaffirmed that the election timetable remains unchanged, and the October 5, 2024, election day is sacrosanct.
“This is to certify that the Chairman of RSIEC, Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebel, DSSRS, (Rtd) never issued/uttered any such statement at any time,” Enebeli said.

“The general public is therefore hereby advised to dismiss and discountenance the article in its entirety as same is false, baseless and unfounded.
“And for the avoidance of doubt, it is hereby declared that the Rivers State 2024 Local Government Election Time-Table is still on course and the 5 October, 2024 election day is sacrosanct.”
