Rivers LG chair predicts tough re-election battle for Fubara
The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ihunwo Chijioke, has predicted that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara would face a daunting task ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Ihunwo, the battle is not just about Fubara’s re-election, but about the very soul and resources of Rivers State.
Speaking to the Akpor Unity Forum, a socio-political group in Obio/Akpor, Ihunwo emphasized the importance of unity and loyalty among supporters.
He said some individuals may abandon Fubara for personal reasons but urged the group to remain firm and committed to the governor’s vision for Rivers State.
He said: “I know that some of the people currently supporting His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara will ditch us before the next general elections in 2027 maybe for some personal and selfish reasons but I urge you all to remain firm and loyal to my leader because his priority is Rivers State and her people, I plead with you to take the message of His Excellency to the nooks and crannies of Akpor kingdom.”
Ihunwo, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ofonime Okon, promised to carry members of the group along in the council’s administration, offering potential appointments as aides or committee members to enhance development in the local government area.
“You can take it for granted that we will as an administration carry you along in what we do in the council, it can come in any shape, be it appointment as aides or as members of committees all geared towards enhancing development in our LGA,” Ihunwo assured.
The leader of Akpor Unity Forum, Chikordi Dike, expressed gratitude for the council boss’s willingness to work with the group and pledged their support for Governor Fubara’s ideals.
He said: “You have already done a lot for our persons but like Oliver Twist, we ask for more in terms of appointments, as a group we are happy to work with you and our dear Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and will always stand firm on his ideals.”
