Sanwo-Olu sure of defeating Ambode in direct primary
One of the governorship aspirants for the 2019 election in Lagos State, Jide Sanwo-Olu has expressed confidence in winning the direct primary of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, scheduled to hold on September 25.
The former Lagos Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, who is allegedly having the support of the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu to contest the ticket with the incumbent, Akinwunmi Ambode, who has also declared interest for reelection on the platform of APC said with the direct primary where all members would participate, “I stand the better chance of winning the ticket on the premise of my popularity and acceptance within the party.”
Addressing the media in Lagos yesterday, he also dismissed insinuation of his possibility of backing out of the race at the last minute on the order of Tinubu, saying his aspiration has nothing to do with Tinubu other than the fact that Tinubu is the national leader.
The aspirant said he is going to run an open and transparent government, which would be accessible to all.
He also dismissed the fear of him using the Mandate Group inspire of the party’s platform to nurture his ambition.
Meanwhile, it further became clear that the party may have abandoned Ambode for Sanwo-Olu, who drove into the meeting in a Range Rover car with two escort vehicles and was welcomed by thousands of party members.
