Tell Yusuf to account for FG’s palliatives in Kano, APC replies Kwankwaso
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has asked the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, who criticised the method adopted by the Federal Government in the distribution of rice palliatives to the needy in the state, to demand proper accountability of previous gesture from the state government.
Kwankwaso had accused the Tinubu-led government of undermining constitutional democracy by excluding Kano government from food palliatives being distributed across the federation, stating that the government’s decision to give Kano’s share of the palliative to APC stalwarts in the state was a disservice to democracy since the palliatives to 35 other states were given to their respective governors.
But in a counter-reaction, APC chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abbas, insisted that President Tinubu was fair enough to channel previous palliatives through the state government but it failed to trickle down to the masses.
“The reconstituted committee by the Federal Government is under the leadership of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, with membership from the APC, NNPP, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Senator Rufa’i Hanga (NNPP), Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila (NNPP), members of the House of Representatives, the state deputy governor, Aminu Abdussalam, traditional and religious leaders, among others.
“It is the committee that worked out detailed modalities for the distribution of the palliatives to prevent incidences of diversion and ensure that the beneficiaries are truly the most needy members of the public. The government’s decision to devise a new method of sharing the palliatives is informed by President Tinubu’s dissatisfaction with the previous exercise toward easing hardships being experienced in the state.”
The APC chief further alleged that the corruption scandal involving some senior officials of the NNPP and government showed how the palliatives could not reach the targeted poor and vulnerable citizens.
