There’re signs Wike is cooperating with APC to weaken PDP — Bode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has said the conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is eroding the party’s internal order and fueling ongoing tensions within the opposition.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, George accused Wike of operating outside the party’s established framework and aligning with interests in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He described Wike as acting without restraint, adding that his approach has contributed to the instability in the PDP.

“He seems like a loose cannon within the party, and there are signs he is cooperating with the APC to weaken us,” George said.

He emphasised that such behaviour was at odds with the principles of collective responsibility expected from party leaders.

George noted that the PDP’s internal mechanisms are governed by its constitution, which places the highest authority in the National Executive Committee (NEC), second only to the national convention. According to him, all party committees, including reconciliation efforts led by individuals such as former Senate President Bukola Saraki, are required to report to the NEC.

He expressed concern that the NEC had not met for an extended period, a situation he attributed to internal procedural issues, including disputes over the party secretary’s gubernatorial ambition without prior resignation.

“That vacuum contributed significantly to the disorder we are witnessing,” George said. However, he confirmed that the issues have now been addressed and that an NEC meeting has been scheduled for July 23.

The PDP chieftain noted that while members of the Board of Trustees, such as Wike, cannot be summarily removed, the party has mechanisms to address infractions. He stated that Wike’s conduct would be among the issues raised at the forthcoming NEC meeting.

George said he remains hopeful that the meeting will be an opportunity for the party to reaffirm its internal discipline and recommit to its founding ideals ahead of the 2027 general elections.
