Udom Emmanuel promises to immortalise Vincent Enyeama
AS political parties continue with their campaigns despite shift in election dates, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has promised the people of Ika council area that if elected, he would liaise with neighbouring Abia State to bring about enduring peace to the area.
The people of Ika council area of Akwa Ibom and their neighbours in Abia State have had a longstanding boundary dispute.
Besides, Mr. Emmanuel assured the people that because the country’s number one goal tender, Vincent Enyeama, is from the area, his government would immortalise him by establishing a football academy in his honour.
At the campaign, which was held on Valentine’s Day, the PDP candidate said his promises for the people of the area were an act of love, adding that with the abundance of palm fruits in the area, he would establish a cosmetic industry to make use of the abundant raw materials.
Justifying the selection of Ika for the proposed cosmetic industry when finally established, he said that other by-products of palm fruits would be used in the production of soap, creams and beauty care products.
He also pledged to complete ongoing road projects initiated by his predecessor and embark on new ones, stressing that such roads as the incumbent Governor Godswill Akpabio and the PDP government constructed Abak-Etim Ekpo-Iwekem.
He listed other roads that would receive urgent attention by his administration in Ika to include Otomo-Ikot Udom; Nto Udo Inwang-Ikot Ikono road; Ikot Atim-Ikot Asukpan, Ikot Offiong road, as well as Etim Ekpo-Azumiri link road that connects Abia State.
At the campaign ground, Governor Akpabio said it was God that fished out Mr. Emmanuel as a replacement after his exist as the governor of the state.
He said no matter what people were saying, “through Udom Emmanuel, the polity of the state will stabilise and the door of prosperity open.”
The national leadership of the PDP, represented at the rally by the National Deputy Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, commended Akwa Ibom State people for keeping faith with the PDP.
He noted that the performance of Governor Akpabio in the last seven and a half years “ranks the state as the best performing state in Nigeria.”
In their goodwill messages, stakeholders from the area, including the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko; the Council Chairman, Saviour Enyiekere; Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Mr. Biatus Udofia; Chairman, State Action Committee on AIDS, Dr. Francis Udoikpong; Mr. Utibe Nwoko, and Dr. Innocent Usoroh, were unanimously in their assurances of a resounding victory for President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Senate flagbearer for Ikot Ekpene, Chief Godswill Akpabio; House of Representatives candidate, Emma Ekon and the House of Assembly candidate, Mr. Gabriel Toby.
