As preparations for the 2027 general election heat up, the stage is opening up for alliances and coalitions on all fronts, especially in the opposition camp. But the ruling party is not resting on its hip either.
Impressed with the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at turning the country around, which are currently yielding results, The Father Abraham Movement has decided to throw its weight behind his re-election bid in 2027.
The Father Abraham Movement is a civic awareness and policy-support platform. It is, however, not a campaign structure. Its focus is on promoting public understanding of governance, reforms, and leadership direction in Nigeria, with calm and reasoned support for the administration of President Tinubu.
According to the Convener of the movement, Olorogun Ovoke Idogun, its core driving force is credible, informed support.
“We believe patience, stability, and understanding of governance processes are more effective than emotional or confrontational messaging and that is why our vision is to support a Nigeria where citizens are better informed and more confident in governance and long-term national development. Our mission statement is to promote awareness and understanding of governance and policy reforms through calm communication, public sensitisation, and responsible engagement,” he said.
He disclosed that the movement, which currently has about a million strong members, has reached out to the Renewed Hope and City Boy initiatives for collaboration.
“Yes, indeed, we have reached out to them (Renewed Hope and City Boy) and we are optimistic that we will all work together for the greater good as regards the 2027 elections. We did collaborate in 2023 and we are confident we will work together again,” Idogun said.
He added that the key objectives of the movement are to: Promote public awareness of governance and reforms; encourage patience and informed civic engagement; support stability, continuity, and long-term thinking; provide balanced, non-confrontational perspectives; keep tone calm and professional; explain more than praise; and acknowledge challenges without amplifying negativity.
Giving reasons the movement decided to pitch its tent with the President, Idogun said: “Since he (President Tinubu) assumed office in 2023, he has been methodically fixing Nigeria without screaming on top of his lungs.
His policies, although they may seem to be harsh on the populace, are necessary for the rejuvenation of the economy of Nigeria and general wellbeing of her citizens. Our duty at The Father Abraham Movement is to educate the public, especially ordinary folks who may not understand the true situation of things and thus see the policies as harsh and anti-people.
“For example, the removal of petrol subsidy on president Tinubu’s first day was viewed as a wrong move and detrimental to the people but only a bold and courageous leader will take such a step. And what do we have now – more monies in the hands of the state governors due to monies saved from the subsidy removal. Take a look at what the Delta State government under the leadership of His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori is doing in the state at the moment.
It is amazing everybody and he was bold enough to come out publicly to say that states are getting more money from the centre and any governor who is not using the monies for the benefit of the people of the state should be held responsible by the people. Let me add that the Delta state government is doing all the things it’s doing across the state without borrowing a dime and who deserves the accolades more than President Tinubu whose economic policies are yielding results, leading to more prosperity for the people.”
