Former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Lai Olurode, has identified hiccups impeding the emergence of South-West presidency in 2023.

Olurode said unless the region’s political leaders become less draconian and put an end to the brigandage of imposing candidates on members, the hope of the zone producing the country’s next president remains doomed.

The professor of Sociology, who spoke during his keynote presentation at a three-day retreat of Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) on the theme, “Sustaining Yorubaness in the Nigeria Setting”, hosted by the Ekiti State Government, warned that the months and years ahead for the region may be bumpy for the major political parties should they continue to draw popular aspiration.
