
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appealed to the Federal government to remain neutral in the process and conduct of local government elections in Kano.
The governor cautioned the judiciary to dispense justice devoid of partisanship in the Kano electoral process.
Yusuf made the appeal Saturday while addressing electoral observers shortly after voting at his Chiranci ward in Gwale local government area of the metropolis.
The Governor who extolled the role of the Nigerian judiciary in entrenching the rule of law alleged that the Federal high court sitting in the state was being used to subvert the will of people in the state.
“We have respect for the Nigerian Judiciary because they are the last hope of the common man. But when the Judiciary now submitted itself to be used and being partisan, there will not be peace in the land,” he said.
“I want to urged the Judiciary not to be used to subvert public interest in Kano.
“Let me emphasize again here that we would not be subjected to any intimidation from the Judiciary and from any quarter. We are peaceful and peace loving people in Kano. But we would not be allowed to be pushed to the wall.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of State Independent Electoral Commission in Nigeria, who doubles as Chairman of Sokoto state Independent Electoral Commission, Aliyu Suleiman, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the council poll.
Suleiman said the election was peaceful and the electorates turned out en masse to exercise their franchise.
