The Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Lagos Chapter, Atinuke Owolabi, has solicited collaboration among engineering bodies in the training of young graduates and professional female engineers in the country.

Atinuke made the call when she led some members of the chapter to visit the Managing Director, Association for Consulting Engineers in Nigeria (ACEN), Mrs Funmilayo Kadri in Lagos.

She lauded the contributions of the ACEN MD to APWEN Lagos and the engineering profession at large, noting that it has been impactful. She appealed to ACEN to create collaborative opportunities, particularly internships for collegiate members, and training schemes to enable them to become more competitive among peers internationally.

In her response, Kadri, reaffirmed support for the association and advocated inclusivity and diversity, emphasised the importance of involving women in all aspects of engineering, particularly in consulting to address engineering design challenges.

She acknowledged the potential push-back that female engineers may face but encouraged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to providing engineering solutions to societal problems.
