Army housing scheme promises homeownership, expands to 10 cities

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja said that the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) has acquired 10 additional sites for the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project across the country. The sites are in Awka, Bauchi, Enugu, Ibadan, Lagos, Oshogbo, Oturkpo, Owerri, Calabar and Warri.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja said that the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) has acquired 10 additional sites for the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project across the country. The sites are in Awka, Bauchi, Enugu, Ibadan, Lagos, Oshogbo, Oturkpo, Owerri, Calabar and Warri.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Nsit Atai/ Uruan, Akwa Ibom State, Lagbaja said the ceremony commences the partnership between the Akwa Ibom State government and the Nigerian Army on the AHOOAS scheme.

Lagbaja said the project is a testament to the successes and viability of his new welfare initiatives to boost, as well as improve the morale of troops.

According to him, the vision is to offer affordable housing options that will enable soldiers to own a house in a place of their choice under the most economically convenient discounted prices and payment plans.

He said the scheme is a continuous effort to address soldiers’ post-service housing challenges head-on by expanding subscribers’ choices.

He added that the gesture would significantly boost the morale and fighting spirit of troops from the South-South zone, particularly those from Akwa Ibom State, assured troops of having a decent, modern, well-constructed, and affordable home to retire at the end of their service to their fatherland.

Lagbaja lauded the people of Ekpene Ukim, Ndon Ikot Itie Udong and Ikot Edong for accepting to host the project in their communities, as well as staff of the Post-Service Housing Development Limited for ensuring a seamless partnership with the Akwa-Ibom State government.

The Managing Director, Post-Service Housing Development Limited, Major General J D Omali, said the scheme is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to motivate and alleviate the hardship faced by soldiers in securing personal accommodation while in active service and their post-service life.

Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Eno, commended the Chief of Army Staff for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian Army.

The Governor, who was represented by the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom (SAN), commended the landmark initiative aims to provide quality, affordable, and secure home ownership options for soldiers of the Nigerian Army.
