Contractor makes progress on Bodo-Bonny Road

Despite persistent torrential rainfall, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has maintained steady progress on the 35.7-kilometre Bodo-Bonny Road project.

Speaking at the project site between Nanabie Bridge and Bonny Island, Project Manager, Tim Nippert, said the team’s resilience and commitment have kept the work on track. “We are working with grit and determination. It is all about our ability to persevere and our passion to deliver on our set goals. With that, we can manage challenges as they come up,” he stated.

Nippert revealed that 80 per cent of the project is complete, with all bridges substantially finished, pending only pavement joint works. The binder layer installation for the asphalt road is also 70 per cent done.

He acknowledged that the unusually heavy July rainfall has slowed certain tasks. “Extraordinary rainfall this month is not allowing installation of the base course,” he explained.

Still, he affirmed that the company is on course to deliver on schedule. Within Bonny Town, 5.2 km of concrete pavement has been completed, stone pitching is ongoing, and an additional 5 km of approach road has reached 80 per cent completion with asphalt binder, awaiting the wearing course and slope protection.

Security Coordinator at the site, Abraham Ikhenoba, also commended the workers for their commitment despite harsh weather.

“The ongoing rain is not stopping them from giving their best,” he said.

The Secretary of the King Perekule Palace, Amaopusenibo Festus Pepple, noted that the Bodo-Bonny Road, which was temporarily opened to commuters during the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom’s diamond jubilee celebrations in early June 2025, has since been closed to traffic.
