The member representing Lavun, Mokwa, and Edati Federal Constituency of Niger State in the House of Representatives, Dr. Joshua Audu Gana, has donated food items and ₦1 million to victims of the Mokwa flood disaster.
Delivering the relief materials in Mokwa on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Gana, represented by his Director of Administration, Pastor Jacob Saba, said the gesture was borne out of concern for the victims who have been grappling with the impact of the May 29 flooding.
“I am deeply moved by their plight. This natural disaster can happen to anyone at any time. As the people’s representative, I feel their pain, and that is why I am donating to them for the second time since the incident,” he said.
He recalled that he moved a motion on July 2, 2025, at the National Assembly, urging the Federal Government to intensify relief efforts, support affected families, and implement preventive measures to avert future occurrences.
Gana had earlier, on June 14, 2025, donated ₦5 million to victims during his first visit, where he also commiserated with internally displaced persons (IDPs) at Tifinmadza and Ndayako communities.
According to him, the latest support, which included rice, maize, spaghetti, salt, seasoning cubes, groundnut oil, and tomato paste, was in fulfillment of his promise to continue assisting the victims until their lives are rebuilt.
The items were distributed by his aides in collaboration with officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ensure fairness and priority for the most vulnerable.
Pastor Saba added that beyond personal interventions, Gana had mobilized other humanitarian support from well-meaning individuals to cushion the effects of the disaster. He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief items.
The victims expressed gratitude to the lawmaker, describing him as a true representative whose support has given them a lifeline.
The event was witnessed by traditional rulers, PDP stakeholders, and the party’s state secretary, Barr. Suleiman Zhigun.
