Facility managers to celebrate World FM Day in Abuja, Accra

The Nigeria FM Initiative, the umbrella body for Facilities Managers has slated Wednesday for the celebration, which holds at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

To further deepen the facility management practice, operators are planning a Facility Management Day (FM) in Abuja and Accra, Ghana. The event is to encourage greater collaboration between facilities management communities and recognize excellence in facilities management in Nigeria and highlight how facilities management play an integral role in positive customer, client and employee experience in all sectors of the economy.

The Nigeria FM Initiative, the umbrella body for Facilities Managers has slated Wednesday for the celebration, which holds at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The National Steering Committee Chairman, Stephen Jagun and the Secretary, Paul Erubami, urged all members to attend the event to discuss how facilities managers can in their individual works, and collectively contribute to the governments push to create a positive business environment in Nigeria.

The event, they hoped will provide opportunities for FMs, Professionals from other sectors, officials from public sector, regulatory agencies, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies from Federal, State and Local levels to rub minds on the role of facilities managers in growing Nigeria’s economy through focus on infrastructure asset management, leveraging best practice from around the world.

Similarly, Alpha Mead Facilities has decided to extend this years celebration to other parts of Africa to positively influence and impact the development across the region and open the markets to various countries of the world.

Speaking at a pre-celebration press briefing, the Group Managing Director of AMFacilities, Mr. Femi Akintunde said, it has decided to take the World FM Day celebration to Accra, Ghana to promote awareness of the industry.

He said: “We believe this will aid contribution to their national development, sensitise private and public sector on their roles in this mix, and support in developing local capacity to global standard level.

“We have seen a steady growth in the awareness and confidence level in FM professional practice over these years. Also quality and standards of practice have improved significantly, and open competition is now thriving in the market.”

Akintunde disclosed that the keynote speaker for the event would be Archbishop Duncan William, who has been a major source of inspiration and experience on how to create wealth from building quality real estate assets and sustaining them.

He added that the forum would also feature technical paper presentations from the doyen of the industry from Ghana and Nigeria as well as offer a viable platform for key stakeholders in the Ghana real estate sector to share ideas, strategise and deliberate on issues affecting the industry and practices in the country.

The World FM Day is an initiative led by Global FM – a worldwide alliance of member-centered Facilities Management organisations, providing leadership in the advancement of the FM profession through institutions such as the British Institute of Facilities Management(BIFM), International Facility Management Association(IFMA) International, Facilities Management Association, Australia; and many others around the world.
