The Federal Government has concluded plans to produce maps to cater for geospatial needs of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for planning, execution of projects and programmes.
The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Adeniran Taiwo stated this while receiving the President, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Alabo Charles in Abuja.
He expressed delight over the amenability of Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on the map-project, saying, the geospatial data would help in the implementation of government projects.
In addition, Taiwo added that “the minister has been of a great source of inspiration for its products and as a supervisory minister, we would make sure we give the best to the Nigerian people.”
His words: geospatial maps would be of great value addition for MDAs, which would also help to curb the waste of scarce financial resource. Each MDA is expected to abreast OSGOF with its needs based on its services.

Explaining further, Taiwo maintained that there would hardly be any meaningful implementation and execution of projects without evidence-based decisions for planning before the execution of projects.
While commending NIS executives on its achievements, he urged them to support its drive to produce world-class survey contents for the government in order to speed development.
“The Federal Government is committed to issues of surveying and mapping, because of its relevance. It makes compulsory surveying activities before the construction of government buildings and facilities.”
Earlier, NIS President, Charles noted that the appointment and confirmation of Taiwo are well deserved in view of his passion and contribution to the profession so far in the country.
Charles, therefore, pledged the support of NIS and appealed to the SGOF to always ensure that they carry all members of the profession along for the greater benefit of the general public.
