Mortgage banks honour CBN, NDIC officials, retired CEOs, others

Mortgage operatives have celebrated their colleagues and those who contributed to the growth and development of the sub-sector.

Mortgage operatives have celebrated their colleagues and those who contributed to the growth and development of the sub-sector.

Among those honoured by the Mortgage Banking Association of Nigeria (MBAN) during its send forth/get together celebration held in Lagos, are retired Managing Directors(MDs)/Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of mortgage banks and other stakeholders.

They include the former Directors, Other financial Institutions Supervision Department (OFISD), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Femi Fabamwo, Mrs. Agnes Tokunbo Martins, Mr. Kola Durojaiye, Mr. Benson Akintola Fasakin and Mr. Adedeji Adesemoye.

Others are former Directors, Special Insured Institutions Department (SIID), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji B.D. Umar and Mr. Joshua James Etopidiok. Former Director, Financial Systems Strategy 2020, Mr. Mohammed Suleyman, former CEO, Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC), Mr. Sonnie Ayere, former board member/ Executive Director, NMRC, Dr. (Mrs) Chika Akporji.

The former mortgage banks’ MDs/CEOs honoured are Mr. Ebong Bassey (Akwa Savings and Loans Limited), Mr. Hassan Usman (Aso Savings and Loans Plc), Mr. Roland Igbinoba (FHA Mortgage Bank Limited), Mrs. Shade Omoniyi (FBN Mortgages Limited, now First Trust Mortgage Bank Plc), Mr. Adeniyi Akinlusi (Trust Bond Mortgage Bank Plc, now First Trust Mortgage Bank Plc).

They include Mr. Richard Olubameru (Haggai Mortgage Bank Limited), Dr. Olabanjo Obaleye (Infinity Trust Mortgage Bank Plc), Alhaji Babangida Umar (Jigawa Savings and Loans Limited), Dr. Bolanle Obot Golden (Refuge Mortgage bank Limited), Mr. Abimbola Olayinka (Resort Savings and Loans Plc), Mr. Aderemi Olatunbode (Jubilee-Life Mortgage Bank Plc), Mr. Babatunde Usman Jinadulagos Building Investment Company Plc) and Alhaji Isah Abubakar Tunga (Kebbi State Home Savings and Loans Limited).

The Chairman, MBAN board of trustees, Mr. Adeoye Mapaderun and past president, Dr. Femi Johnson, who presented the awards, lauded the awardees for blazing the trail in the industry and ensuring the survival of sub sector during the recapitalisation exercises.

On the CBN and NDIC officials, Mapaderun recalled how they supported mortgage banks to overcome their teething problems.

Johnson re-echoed efforts made by the officials to extend their tenure as MDs/CEOs to 10 years after the recapitalisation.

MBAN Executive Secretary/CEO, Mr. Kayode Omotoso, explained that the forum was created to express appreciation to stakeholders for their valuable contributions to the sub-sector in the past and in their various capacities and to engender effective collaboration/ synergy between stakeholders towards value-add shared services for concentric development of the sub-sector.

He said the mortgage banks are working assiduously towards the adoption of property technology and FINTECHS for property title perfection/ mortgage lending as well as mortgage services in the country. “We are targeting new specific customer segment markets at economies of scale, with emphases on the Gen Z (21-26 years) and millennials (27-41 years) as well as the existing Gen X (42-56 years),” he added.
