In a move aimed at positioning the branch as a model of ethical and professional practice, the Rivers State Branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has announced plans to expand the use of digital tools for its members.
Branch Chairman, Nwankwo Nwokoma, disclosed this during the institution’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Port Harcourt. He said the adoption of more advanced digital solutions would enhance service delivery, professional efficiency, and public engagement.
Nwokoma noted that although political developments had delayed engagements with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the branch had still recorded significant progress during the year. He expressed optimism about forging deeper institutional partnerships in the coming year to strengthen the branch’s impact across the state.
The AGM brought together senior members and key stakeholders to review achievements under the branch’s Four-Dimensional Development Agenda (4Ds) and to set strategic priorities for the year ahead.
According to Nwokoma, the branch has remained committed to public education on valuation standards and land administration. Key milestones for the year included courtesy visits to the Ministry of Lands and the Obio-Akpor local council, which pledged land for the construction of a new branch secretariat.
He reaffirmed the branch’s commitment to sustained public enlightenment, professional advocacy, ethical standards, and institutional growth.
Senior members praised the administration’s performance. Chairman of the Board of Fellows, Ben Okoronkwo, described Nwokoma’s leadership as “resilient and visionary,” while Lagos-based member, Dike Stanley, commended the branch’s innovative initiatives, including the first-ever AGM broker partnership and transparent financial reporting.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of upholding professional standards and combating quackery in real estate practice. “By law, valuation is the exclusive preserve of licensed practitioners. Public patronage of qualified professionals ensures accountability and accuracy,” Ikenna Lansa added.
