The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Abuduganiyu A. Adebomehin, has urged the Nigerian surveyors to go extra mile to embrace emerging technologies and conflict management skills in view of the complicated nature of their works in the country.

Adebomehin also said as surveyors, they would be confronting with unwilling persons in the communities during demarcation work at border areas of both internal and international boundaries.

He stated this in Abuja, while receiving a team of the National Peace Academy (NPA) of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), an agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by its Director, Dr. Bosede Awodola.

According to him, making peace and establishment of good relations among others in the host communities at borders remain their major concern, “We will activate training on internal and international boundaries in conflict management, resolution and negotiation.”

The SGoF, therefore pledged to collaborate with IPCR for the training of surveyors and other staff of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) at the Institute’s Peace Academy to help them determine boundaries, with members of communities.

Earlier, the Director, Awodola, who appreciated the mandates of OSGoF, as an extra-ministerial Office of the Federal Government, described it as distinct and central to genuine development in the country.

She assured the SGoF that they have the capacity to provide customised trainings, depending on the various mandates of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), urging the OSGoF to engage in research, carryout intervention and build capacity in areas of peace as well as conflict management.

Awodola, however, disclosed that the academy has been relating with the National Boundary Commission (NBC), especially in conflict management, capacity building for its staff, saying, this will improve its work area.
