At 56, Tony Elumelu makes history
Since he left the Pan-African bank, United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc, Tony has remained standing tall in all his endeavours, especially through his Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), a leading African philanthropic non-governmental organisation committed to empowering young African entrepreneurs.
Last weekend in Abuja, TEF unveiled 3,050 entrepreneurs, out of which 1,000 received direct funding from this year’s entrepreneurs scheme.
TEF announced the selected applicants for this year under the Foundation’s flagship Entrepreneurship Programme on March 22, which interestingly falls on Tony’s birthday, making it more unique for the man of means.
The event, which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, marked the 5th edition of the Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Programme. The Selection Announcement also featured a Nigerian TEF Alumni Meet Up, as well as an interactive dialogue with the TEF Founder, who is now on the threshold of history as the first African to make such an indelible mark in the continent.
Yes, Tony is enigmatic and quintessential in all ramifications and this is no exaggeration. Today, his TEF has over the years been giving succour and relief, via empowerment of youths, not only in Nigeria, but also throughout Africa, for sustainable growth and development.
