As the Nigerian music industry joins the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme, Embrace Equity, prominent music streaming and download platform, Boomplay, has called for a more inclusive industry.

In a communique shared with Weekend Beats, it said that women are achievers who can lead the charge for groundbreaking achievements in the industry.

According to its Director of Artiste and Media Relations, Tosin Sorinola, the organisation prioritises inclusiveness by ensuring a gender-balanced workforce of women-led leadership in various management and other levels.

“The general managers of four of the six countries where Boomplay has a physical presence are female; its marketing, artist and media relations, business development and more directors are also female. The role of women in music has evolved significantly over the years, from being primarily relegated to the background to becoming powerful forces in their own right,” she said.

She also highlighted that Boomplay has given dedicated playlists and channels that promote the work of female artists, giving them greater visibility and exposure.

“This has helped to level the playing field by allowing them to reach new audiences, gain recognition for their work, and create opportunities for female artists to succeed. Boomplay is committed to amplifying women’s voices across the continent.”
