POISED to facilitate business cooperation, collaboration and partnerships between Turkish and Nigerian retail organisations, Bervidson International Limited (Bervidson), a leading Nigerian retail development consultancy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish leading retail development and consultancy group, Mia Organizasyon Restorasyon Yayıncılık Ltd. Şti (Soysal).

With the MoU, which was signed recently, Bervidson is now able to link businesses, investors and businessmen from Turkey who are interested in establishing business presence in Nigeria especially in collaboration with Nigerian partners; and also support organisations and individuals in Nigeria and other West African countries interested in doing business in Turkey.

According to the agreement, Bervidson will also facilitate the process of engagement of Nigerian companies’ executives with Turkish companies seeking to establish their presence in retail and retail related industries in Nigeria and other West African countries either through partnership or franchising.

On its part Soysal will facilitate introductions of companies and senior individuals within the retail sector in Turkey through its long established network of retail and retail related industries contacts (including but not limited to shopping malls, all kinds of retail suppliers, FMCG producers, clothes manufacturers) in Turkey through Bervidson.

Speaking during the signing of the MoU, the Group CEO of Bervidson, Mr. Joseph Ebata, disclosed that the MoU would in the future berth strong partnerships between Nigerian and Turkish retail companies.

Ebata, who was excited by this development, said: “Besides the advantages of direct investments, this MoU will lift the retail game in Nigeria through the adoption of international best practices, introduction of world-class brands and Nigerians fully taking advantage of the ongoing retail transformation.”

Stating that it is now left for Nigerian businessmen and investors to tap into the MoU, Ebata said Nigeria cannot afford to wait for another five years and start regretting that others have completely taken over retail sector.

Ebata further disclosed that some Turkish companies might be attending the next Retail Leaders Conference billed for Lagos in May this year with a view to meeting potential Nigerian partners.

In his remarks, Founder and CEO of Soysal Group, Mr. Suat Soysal also disclosed that Turkish companies have been looking for credible collaborators to facilitate the entry of Turkish companies into West Africa.

Soysal disclosed that Turkish companies have been on his neck to help them find a way of meeting the right Nigerian individuals and organisations to partner with. “I am very happy that we now have this platform and Nigeria is the next big thing,” he said.
