FOLLOWING the decision of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to approve the appointment of Mr. Udeme Ufot, MON, as the Chairman of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), former APCON chairman appointee, Mr. Ngozi Emioma, has relinquished his earlier mandate.

APCON had been immersed in a crisis of leadership since September 2013 when Mr. Lolu Akinwunmi’s two-year term as Chairman of APCON officially expired. Usually towards the end of a tenure, APCON forwards four names of qualified APCON Fellows to the presidency via the Minister of Information as the supervising minister for the selection of the next APCON chairman. This was done but none of the forwarded names was selected or announced.

Commenting on his appointment, Ufot stated that he felt honoured with the opportunity to serve as the new APCON chairman. He noted that challenges and opportunities lay ahead and both must be harnessed for the growth of the industry.

“There is a lot of work to be done and it requires sacrifice. With the experience of the council members, APCON will continue to regulate and encourage competitiveness within the industry. It is a challenge and an opportunity to make a change”

Ufot, a past President of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association whose tenure witnessed strong rejuvenation of the association and improvements in all key indices of the LBSAA’s performance, currently serves as the Coordinator of Akwa Ibom Concerned Professionals, an umbrella body for distinguished Akwa Ibom indigenes resident in Lagos.

He was conferred with the National Honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) recently and is highly regarded for his professionalism, integrity and passion for excellence.
