Christmas comes early in Lagos with tropical wonderland

Magical Light up, array of colours with an hour fireworks, kicked off this year’s Eko Hotels and Suites’ Tropical Christmas in Victoria Island, Lagos. The Eko Hotels’ Tropical Christmas Wonderland is a premier Christmas event created by the management of the hotel to raise the stake in Nigeria’s hospitality industry.

Magical Light up, array of colours with an hour fireworks, kicked off this year’s Eko Hotels and Suites’ Tropical Christmas in Victoria Island, Lagos. The Eko Hotels’ Tropical Christmas Wonderland is a premier Christmas event created by the management of the hotel to raise the stake in Nigeria’s hospitality industry.

The month-long event, which kicked-off with a light-up ceremony on December 15, 2019, will be followed by a line-up of fun events between December 23 and 27, 2019 at the hotel’s premises. The events are designed for families and individuals to relive classic Christmas memories and create new magical infused with the one-of-a -kind hospitality that only Eko Hotel offers.

Speaking with The Guardian during the light up event, General Manager of Eko Hotels, Danny Kioupouroroglou, said, “The whole idea is that we are go on a tropical, promoting African Idea of Christmas. In the past, a lot of Nigerians disappear during Christmas to Europe, America, Australia, while some chose to go to Dubai. Now, we create entertainment and opportunity for them to stay in Nigeria, to spend the money here and have a good time in Nigeria. That’s what is happening in Eko Hotels with Tropical Christmas Wonderland.”

The GM added, “We have a lot of activities during this year’s Christmas; we have a big concert with Nigerian talents taking place on December 25, Pyjamas party, singing, Christmas trees and Santa Claus parade.“Everybody is talking about the need to develop the tourism sector and create more activities in Nigeria and that’s exactly what we are doing; for Nigerians enjoy Nigeria and have fantastic time here and not abroad.”

Highlighting the programmes for the season, Marketing Director, Eko Hotels, Iyadunni Gbadebo, said, “The main programme starts from December 23, 2019 to 28 of December, 2019, and we have family checked into the hotel within that period.

“On the 23rd, when the people checked in, we have a master class for the children. We have two cinemas in the hotel, we have a wonderland and we also a crèche for families who wants to bring in their kids.”

On December 24, which is when Santa arrives, “Santa is running away from the cold, so, he’s coming and landing in Africa, that’s why it’s called Tropical Christmas. And when he lands in Africa, Santa will have a 20-man procession and the 20 men are going to drive from Eko Suites through the four buildings and he’s going to also light up this place (Eko Hotels). When Santa finishes his show, the families in the hotel will come down and watch the procession or join the procession as he drives through.”

Thereafter, Santa will go to the Wonderland Garden to meet the children waiting for him for a magical Pyjama Party. “Then, we have the 35 feet tall singing trees, which is the first of its kind in West Africa. On Christmas Day, guests at the hotel will wake up to an amazing gift and by 12 noon, there will be a big Christmas Party. We are going to wrap up the Christmas day with an amazing evening. We will be having a Christmas Carol, where we will have audition for the children to compete and showcase their talents.”

For the first time, no big celebrity is going to be the star of the show.“Our children are going to be the star of their own show. It’s going to be a three hour show and light will be radiating through the children at this event,” she said.The Boxing Day will feature a themed high life and palm wine night with spectacular high life music and an exquisite dinner buffet experience, while the New Year eve features midnight fireworks that usher guests into the brand new year 2020.
