A few years ago when Animashaun Samuel Perry, otherwise known as Broda Shaggi in the showbiz industry, conceived his own brand of comedy, many didn’t give him a chance. But determined to make the best out of his talent, the Instagram sensation kept dishing out skits after skits with social media as hi launch pad.

It didn’t take long before Broda Shaggi began to attract the attention of events organisers, as a result of his massive presence online. Today, his effort has paid off; Broda Shaggi has become a household name in the industry, with endorsement deals to show for it.

Just this week, FairMoney, a mobile bank for emerging markets, signed the comedian and actor as a brand its ambassador. The deal, which is for an initial period of one year, will see Broda Shaggi collaborate with FairMoney to reach its grassroots audience.

The comedian, who is also a singer and voiceover artist, currently has over three million followers on Instagram and came into the limelight for his humourous social media skits.

Last December, Broda Shaggi featured in FairMoney’s influencer marketing campaign dubbed The Friends Loan Test. The reception the band received from the association signalled that the comedian is a good fit.

In a statement received from the mobile bank, Seun Oratokhai, FairMoney’s Head of Direct Marketing, expressed that both parties were pleased with the terms of the contract.

“Broda Shaggi was an obvious choice following the interaction with consumers during the Friends Loan Test and the No Excuses campaign, which launched last year. Our consumers and target audience also connected with him immensely during our roadshows and activations,” Oratokhai said.

“He is the face of our brand not just because he is funny and has a huge fanbase but because he represents the normal Nigerians that are our customers. In addition, like Broda Shaggi, FairMoney is a young brand that is rapidly growing in popularity,’ she concluded.

The brand offers individuals and small businesses loans from N1,500 to N150,000 through its free mobile app available in the Google Play Store for Android users. FairMoney customers can also use the app to pay for value-added services including airtime and dataand pay-TV subscription renewals with no transaction fees.

As a child, Samuel Perry had always had the passion to act drama; he also knew he had the flare to be a comedian. According to him, his late father, who taught drama at Mayflower Junior School, Ikenne, Ogun State, motivated him. Since then, he has acted many roles and played some characters like Inspector Perry, a policeman; Professor Dele, and Akonni Ibadan. This was before he went with the stage name Broda Shaggi.

It was at UNILAG where Shaggi took his comedy talent serious. In an interview, he said, “Comedy is what I love doing and I like to make it as real as possible so that people can relate with it. I like to make people laugh; so, when they watch me, all they do is laugh despite the situation of the country. My aim is to affect people with comedy in a good way. That was what prompted me into doing comedy in the first place.”

Apart from comedy skits, the Instagram sensation is also a voice-over artist, singer, and scriptwriter.
