There has been mixed reactions on the performance of the Ebonyi State, Governor Dave Umahi in his first 100 days in office. While some believe that his 100 days in office has been characterised by massive infrastructural development, because the state capital is wearing a new look due to road constructions.

According to them the governor has shown much concern in reviving the education sector. During his last media chat with journalists in Abakaliki, Governor Umahi made it clear that his administration will fulfill all the campaign promises he made to the people adding that works has started in most parts of the state.

He said that soon the state capital will wear a new look and contract to construct three flyover to decongest flow of traffic has been awarded adding that his administration will rehabilitate 200km of roads within the state capital. “The Gunning road has been completed with asphalts, we are using cement and concrete to lay the base of the roads we are doing.

People are complaining but am telling you all here that it is most costly, most efficient, we are reconstructing the main section to make it look decent, pipes are being lay so that all the state capital will have water and the first phase of our street light has been commissioned, this government has enough for the people” he said.

On fight against corruption, he said he would continue to dialogue with those recently indicted by the state House of Assembly that embezzled over 1.3 billion Naira of local government funds, and engage them with plea bargain to return part of the looted fund.

But in a situation, where they fail to comply, they would be arrested. In his remarks, the state commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emmanuel Onwe said Governor, Umahi has unleashed unprecedented energy, constructive engagement, intelligent allocation of very limited resources in his approach to the governance of the state within the first 100 days in office.

He said the governor has done well in the area of health and infrastructural development. He is deeply and passionately engaged in detailed and productive negotiations with domestic and international partners to carve new pathways for advancement in these critical sectors. “State wide electrification programme and water reticulation are underway.

Massive assessment of the education sector has been concluded across the state and the next phase of unloading remedial measures will commence shortly”.

In short, the Governor has unlocked both the challenges and potentialities of the state with the key of imagination. It has been a sure footed start,” he said.

Despite all these progress made so far by the state government the opposition believed that the government has not done enough in the last 100 days to justify the mandate given to them by the people.

Speaking the State chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Mr. Ben Nwaobasi said the truth is that the state government has failed on her campaign promises, starting from its inability to pay workers salary which the last administration paid till the last month they handed over.

According to him, Umahi’s government has no policy direction or infrastructural development plans. His words “Look at the roads leading to Udesi it is a death trap and the state is not doing anything about it knowing that the Teaching Hospital is located towards the road.
