With 32 designers showcasing their creative collections on the runway of the Fashions Finest Africa Epic Show 2023 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, fashion lovers and other stakeholders in the industry were thrilled by the elegant styles of models that ‘walk the walk’.

The just-concluded two-day event commenced with an insightful conference on Business of Fashion themed “Fashion for the Future” and had in attendance over 150 emerging fashion entrepreneurs.

At the event, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fashions Finest Africa, Sola Oyebade, said the show, which is in its fifth edition, was aimed at showcasing new and emerging creatives.

“One of the things I have realised in Nigeria is that we have a lot of young people that are unemployed but are very creative. Unfortunately, opportunities are not given to these young people to express themselves. This is what this show is about, to give these people the platform to understand the business side of fashion, finances, market advantages and how to use social media, among others. It is also to give the opportunity for emerging designers to showcase their collections for the first time on the runway.

‘Because a lot of them can’t get into the big shows, what we do is give them their first opportunities and hope that later on they can get into the big shows. However it is not just about designers, but hair stylists and makeup artists, among others, for them to learn and establish themselves,” Oyebade said.

Some of the designers showcased at the event, which was supported by Mahogany Productions and Events, First Bank Nigeria Plc, Samee Idowu, X-Pressions, Zaron Cosmetics and Startimes, include Kofo’Oba, Vudoh, House of Dof, Diidee Designs, 4evayoung by Ujuestelo, Dr Legend Clothing, Poshnova and JP Kouture from London, United Kingdom.
