Preparations are in top gear for the 20th anniversary of the Director’s Guild of Nigeria (DGN) scheduled for Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in March. The DGN is the umbrella body for motion picture directors in the country and President of the DGN Olorogun Fred Amata disclosed that the executives are working on delivering a memorable 20th anniversary event in Abuja in March. Amata, a prolific actor and director also hinted that already, the DGN has, as part of the preparation for the 20th anniversary celebration been paying courtesy visits to prominent Nigerians including Royal Fathers to seek their endorsement.

Recently, the DGN train pulled over at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II to seek his blessings and to confer on him the title of the Grand patron of the DGN and Imperial Majesty of Nollywood. Amata said shortly before the investiture ceremony, that the conferment of the title was a way of thanking the royal father for his consistent support to the Nollywood industry. Amata said: “Our purpose of coming here is to felicitate and identify with this great land and the King in the service to our creativity, humanity, and provision of assistance to professional filmmaking in Nigeria.

Thank you for accepting DGN as we believe this synergy marks a new positive beginning for continuous support and encouragement to better the guild and the Nigerian movie industry’’. Responding after his investiture, the Ooni thanked the DGN executives for the honour and promised to do more for the growth and development of the movie sector and the entertainment and tourism industry as a whole. According to his royal majesty: ‘’ I am a very active supporter of the movie industry in Nigeria. I have supported lots of movie initiatives and projects in Nigeria.

Things I have been doing indirectly can be done directly now. My plan was to build a movie city before I became a King. I have been thinking aloud that in this country we should have a movie city like what they have in California. Even as a King I am trying to build a film city that is called Ife Grand Resort and trying to take it to another level.”
