…Wants FG to honour record breakers

World-record-holding Nigerian disc jockey, Oyinmiebi Asu, professionally known as DJ SoulYin, has congratulated her fellow maverick Hilda Baci for breaking the Guinness World Record for longest cooking marathon by an individual.

SoulYin, who holds a world record for the longest DJ set – 243 hours and 30 minutes (11 days) – as well as the first Nigerian woman to do so, also tasked the Federal Government to confer national honours on all Nigerian world record breakers.

“This monumental accomplishment goes beyond personal triumph; it symbolises a profound shift in the landscape of possibilities for Nigeria and Nigerians. It serves as a beacon of inspiration for black women, particularly Nigerian women, breaking down barriers and shattering glass ceilings in pursuit of greatness,” she says in a statement sent to Weekend Beats.

“Amidst the well-deserved recognition, I warmly congratulate the remarkable Hilda Bacci who recently cooked her way into history with an extraordinary 100-hour feat. Together, we celebrate the spirit of Nigerian women who fearlessly challenge limits, leaving an indelible mark on the world stage.”

The acclaimed DJ, who is currently on tour in Dakar, Senegal, said the Federal Government needs to inspire more young Nigerians in breaking global records.

“Nigeria has a long and proud history of achievement, and our citizens have set many Guinness World Records over the years. These achievements are a testament to the talent, dedication, and hard work of our people.

We urge the government to establish a national honour for Nigerian Guinness World Record holders. This would be a way to recognize their achievements and to inspire others to achieve great things.”

The young entertainer, who set her record in 2021, has also issued a digital petition via change.org asking Nigerians to sign and share it till it gets on the front burner of the country’s policymakers.
