Burnley made history by becoming the first second-tier English side to register 10 consecutive clean sheets after a 2-0 win over Hull, while Sheff Utd remained ahead of the Clarets in second thanks to a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough.

Chelsea loanee Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming were on target for Burnley, who remain three points behind the Blades and within five of leaders Leeds.

A promotion push by Scott Parker’s men has been built on a remarkable defensive record as they have conceded just nine goals in 32 league games.

“It is remarkable and it is pretty special. It is something we are immensely proud of and it is not just the backline, it is the whole team,” said Parker.

“We hold it with massive pride because it is pretty astonishing what we are doing right now currently as a group on the defensive phase.”

Sheffield United needed two late goals to keep their bid for an immediate return to the Premier League on track.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi put Chris Wilder’s men in front but Delano Burgzorg’s penalty levelled for Middlesbrough

Substitute Ben Brereton Diaz retored their lead on 75 minutes before Anel Ahmedhodzic’s header three minutes from time secured the points.

FA Cup giantkillers Plymouth roared to their second memorable win in three days to climb off the foot of the table.

Ryan Hardie, Sunday’s penalty hero against Liverpool, scored twice in a thumping 5-1 victory over Millwall.

Argyle move to within one point of safety and leapfrog Luton, who were beaten 2-0 at Sunderland.

Goals from Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor kept the Black Cats in the hunt for automatic promotion as they remain fourth, five points behind Sheffield United.

Blackburn shrugged off the absence of manager John Eustace, who is set for a move to Derby, to win 2-0 at West Brom and climb above the Baggies into fifth.

Anis Mehmeti scored twice as Bristol City beat Stoke 2-0 and substitute Michael Smith’s goal gave Sheffield Wednesday a 1-0 win at Swansea.
