Nigerian Breweries Plc rewarded media excellence and outstanding journalism practice at the Golden Pen Award in Lagos last weekend. The event attracted dignitaries from the country’s media, political and social circles, including Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, among others, who came to celebrate journalists that submitted outstanding reports on Education, Youth Empowerment and Talent Development last year.

The award, which is the 8th in the series, is aimed at promoting professionalism and objective reportage of events in Nigeria. It is also meant to reward such journalists who abide by the ethics of the journalism profession.

The night of glitz and glamour saw Tobi Aworinde of The Punch emerge the NB Golden Pen Reporter of the Year. The first runner-up was Gbenga Salau of The Guardian, while Charles Abah of The Punch emerged the second runner-up.

The Photo Journalist of the Year award went to Sodiq Adelakun of The Punch, with Odutayo Odusanya, also of The Punch, as first runner-up and Ayodele Ojo of The Sun the second runner-up. Gabriel Dike, an education reporter with The Sun, won the NB Report of the Year.

All the winning journalists also got cash prizes and high-end mobile devices as part of the reward package.
