Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Dr. Shaibu Husseini, has charged content creators to produce effective and uplifting contents, praising Nigerian creators for being among the very best in the world.
He gave the charge while speaking at the #LevelUpAfrica Programme, TikTok Creator Education Day held in Victoria Island, Lagos. The “Level Up Africa” initiative, aimed at empowering and up-skilling more than 3,000 content creators across sub-Saharan Africa.
“As Chief Executive of the National Film and Video Censors Board, I see every day how powerful our creative community has become. Nigeria’s young people are shaping culture, leading digital conversations, and putting our stories on the global map.
“Platforms like TikTok give you the chance to reach millions, to inspire, and to showcase the very best of who we are. But let me be real, we have also seen content that goes the wrong way: misinformation, dangerous trends, indecent material, or things that tear down instead of buildup. That’s not who we are,” Husseini said.
“You have the power to flip the script to use this platform to educate, to inform, to entertain responsibly, and to earn from doing what you love, while uplifting your audience and your community
“I want to encourage every creator to take what they learn here and run with it. Be bold, be creative, but also be responsible. Because the content you put out can change perceptions, open doors, and create opportunities, not just for you, but for our country as a whole,” he added.
He further commended the social media and short-form online video platform for expanding its creator education programmes, stating that “what stood out for us at the event were the community guidelines, mental health and education policies.
Head of Content Operations, Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok, Boniswa Sidwaba noted that TikTok, through the initiative seeks to unlock opportunities within the creative sector, driving growth and development for youth in Nigeria and across the broader Africa region.
She said, “By equipping creators with the necessary skills and resources, TikTok aims to build sustainable businesses and foster a thriving creative economy. As a platform, creators have always been at the heart of what we do.”
