‘It Has Exposed The Division In APC’

What is the implication of the National Assembly crises on the legislature and governance? The implications of the festering crisis include the fact that it is delaying the full take off of our legislative duties.

Senator representing Plateau South on PDP platform Senator Jeremiah Useni speaks on the National Assembly resumption next week.

There is no need for the six weeks holidays after we just resumed from a two-week holiday. It has also brought the division within the party to the public glare.

Before now, we did not know that they have a split. We only knew that people came from different parties, put together like salad to make up an edible food.

But what is happening now is that as the salad gets cold, they are now separating, that is what is happening. The earlier they put their house in order, the better. Otherwise, a lot of things may happen to the party.

My take is that if the party takes a drastic action like trying to sack those people, sacking them from the party, of course, they have good excuse to defect and the Supreme Court position is clear on that. If there is no trouble in your party, you lose your seat when you defect, but if there are crises in your party, you go with your seat. So, I am sure the party is aware of this and is very cautious not to do that.

This time that everybody is sticking to its stand, everybody seems to have good excuse for the actions he has taken but the problem there is that they are yet to meet.

They must have a meeting point, otherwise, we will not move forward and it will not be good even for the individual Senators – the leaders of the two chambers of the National Assembly because those who do not understand the issues at stake will think that the two leaders, Saraki and Dogara are very heady and do not have recourse for the party.

But if you look at it from the other side, did the party really take them into consideration? The party is insisting that it puts them there, that is right, they rose on the platform of the party but what the party should know is that having got into the National Assembly, it is no more APC affair.

Parties can do their primaries at the meeting and decide on they want to lead them, but when it gets to the chamber, it is no longer party affairs alone. If those that the party do not want, should lobby people from other parties, add them to the number they have on their side, they will win and that was what happened. What is your fear ahead of next week resumption? There will be no war.

If they say they will fight, let them fight but when they say there will be war, we know war involves weapon and we do not go there with weapons. Unless they are talking of war of words but we are mature people and are capable of resolving issues in a very gentle way.

May be initially, there will be uneasiness but at the end, we will resolve it. There will be no problem. I have confidence in my colleagues.
