Representing a significant step towards professionalising Nigeria’s travel tourism and hospitality industry, the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at significantly boosting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

The landmark agreement establishes a collaborative framework for both institutions to leverage their statutory mandates in the regulation, development, assessment and quality assurance of technical and vocational skills.

A key objective of the partnership is to strengthen professional competence and develop robust capacity for training and assessment within the Hospitality, Catering, Travel, and Tourism sectors.

The MoU is also expected to have high impact on government’s initiatives aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s TVET system to create millions of jobs in the tourism and creative industries as the MoU further lays the groundwork for a comprehensive collaborative framework designed to achieve mutually beneficial objectives and drive the improvement of technical skills across Nigeria.

The formal signing ceremony, which held at the NABTEB Headquarters, was led by ITPN National President, Aare Abiodun Odusanwo and NABTEB Registrar/CEO, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed.

Odusanwo said: “By combining ITPN’s expertise as the premier awarding body for the sector with NABTEB’s national reach in technical examinations, we are creating a formidable synergy to up-skill our workforce and ensure they meet global best practices.”

Mohammed added: “NABTEB is committed to delivering quality assurance and credible certification. This partnership with ITPN will allow us to enhance our assessment frameworks specifically for the travel tourism and hospitality sectors, ensuring that the certifications we award are truly reflective of industry needs and professional standards.”
