Jonathan, Atiku, Governors, others, grace Buhari’s son’s wedding in Kano
The presidential delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, and comprising the Ministers of Defence, Bashir Magashi; Agriculture, Sabo Nanono; Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and Water Resources, Suleiman Hussein Adamu as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), Garba Shehu, were the first batch of dignitaries to arrive the city.
Very early in the morning, yesterday, the state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, led some of the eminent personalities including other governors, ministers, traditional rulers, members of the National and State Assemblies, former governors, and members of the Diplomatic Corps to the VIP lounge of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to wait for the arrival of the president.
The event was virtually attended by the who is who in Nigeria including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Also present was the former President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Isoufou.
However, shortly after touching down at the airport, the President boarded a chopper that took him to the venue of the wedding in Bichi local council of the state, which is about 30 kilometres away from Kano city.
The president’s uncle, Mamman Daura, who stood in for the groom, paid the sum of N500,000 as dowry to Aminu Dantata, who stood in for the bride to tie up the marriage according to Islamic injunction.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isah Pantami, was the officiating Imam at the ceremony.
The elated groom, Yusuf Buhari, dressed in traditional white attire with a headgear to match, was surrounded by his friends throughout the ceremony.
The Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, who witnessed the wedding, described it as a national event. He advised the couple to live peacefully and in accordance with the tradition and culture of Nigerian society.
“They should do everything possible to live peacefully and remember the society they come from and do things according to the tradition and culture f the society,” he said.
Speaking with The Guardian, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, Ojaja II, described the marriage as a marriage of national unity.
“Look at what happened in Bichi today. Bichi is a subset of the entire Kano State. Look at the economy and the activities that have happened in Bichi today by virtue of Mr. President’s son’s wedding to the Sarkin Bichi’s daughter.
“So, if you look around, many governors are here, from even different parties. PDP governors are here; APC governors came.”
So, there are some things that can bind us together in this country. So, if we focus on what will bind us, the country will be better and things will be easy for us,” he said.
