The Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was the place to be last Saturday, as leading global payments technology company and UEFA Champions League sponsor, Mastercard, hosted partners, sports legends and other celebrities at an exclusive viewing of the televised UEFA Champions League final match between Liverpool and Tottenham.

The evening of fun started with a special black-carpet reception that saw the hotel lobby transformed into a mini sports arena, with jerseys of both teams on display. Fans of both teams had the opportunity of taking pictures with the backdrop of their favourite teams before guests were ushered into the mail hall.

DNMT Crew set the tone for the evening with an energetic display that earned them rounds of applause from the audience. From one dance routine to another, the popular dance crew engaged the audience until the host, Jimmy, announced the official commencement of the game in far away Madrid, Spain. However, it was Okocha’s dance moves on stage that got the audience cheering.

Half time was an opportunity for the host Jimmy to engage former Super eagles payers Kanu Nwankwo and Austine Jay Jay Okocha. While Kanu, a staunch support of Arsenal rooted for Liverpool, Okocha preferred Tottenham for the coveted trophy. In the end, Liverpool carried the day, amid jubilations from their fans.

Kizz Daniel, who got guests, especially Liverpool fans on their toes, wrapped the night with performance. From his old recordings to latest tracks, the Woju crooner proved he’s still on top of his game.

Commenting on Mastercard’s decision to host a viewing event, Omoke Adebanjo, Area Business Head at Mastercard West Africa said, “We organised this viewing event as a way for us to directly engage with our customers, connect them to their passion for football and share in the experience of witnessing priceless moments with them. We also wanted to provide football lovers in Nigeria with a chance to get closer to some of the icons of the game who joined us today. Watching the finals with our partners in Nigeria has been a fun and rewarding event.”
