Light out on Tinsel star Victor Olaotan

Notable Nollywood actor Victor Olaotan has taken the final curtain call. The actor, who has been bedridden following a ghastly motor accident he had nearly five years ago, reportedly passed on this Thursday. His wife Julia, who has been crying out for help for the actor, broke the news of his death to some of Olaotan colleagues early on Thursday morning.

An actor of vast credit, Olaotan was flown to Turkey for prompt medical attention after he became incapacitated following the car accident he was involved in, along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway. Help came for the actor from Billionaire Femi Otedola and some well meaning Nigerians and philanthropists, including his colleagues and fans, but the funds realised could only pay for the first stage of the medical procedure. As at the time he died, funds were still needed to handle the second stage of the treatment and the post treatment stage.


Earlier this year, Olaotan’s wife had complained of how she has been receiving threatening emails from the hospital in Turkey. “All I receive now from the hospital are threatening emails and calls asking me to come and offset the bills or they will be forced to take legal action,” she said.

An actor’s actor of vast credit who for about seven years breathed real life into the character of Fred Ade Williams on the Mnet flagship soap Tinsel, Victor who was born in Lagos in the early 50’s, studied drama at the University of Ibadan, at the Obafemi Awolowo University and at Rockets University, USA. An accomplished stage and screen actor, Olaotan warmed his way into the consciousness of television viewers, playing the leading role in Tinsel. Only few episodes of the soap that started airing in August 2008 and Olaotan has become a household name. Burial will be as announced by the family.
