Lojay teams up with Chris Brown to repaint Monalisa

As if Chris Brown had not shocked us enough with his chart-topping duets with other Nigerian acts such as Wizkid and Davido in recent years, the Grammy-winning American singer has yet again joined forces with another Nigerian to serve an intriguing record. In the just-released Monalisa remix, he teams up with Lojay to rehash that vibrancy and enigma that colours his Afro-inspired collaborations.
“At the time I was creating this song, I would have never imagined hearing a Chris Brown verse on it, but the best part is that he actually took his time and gave the song a different feel. He is someone I have always wanted to work with. So, this is a really good feeling,” Lojay said, narrating the inspiration behind the duet on his social media.
Like the original, Monalisa Remix thrives for its catchy hook, and groovy backing melodies. As listeners sway to Lojay’s original call, “Ma jo Monalisa,” Chris Brown’s additional verse on the song gives it a satisfactory facelift.
Interestingly, Chris Brown references Hushpuppi, as he says, “Me and you go chop life like Hushpuppi,” further revving up the relatability and intrigue of the song. In fact, it is safe to say that Chris Brown is beginning to enjoy the pidgin-English-speaking, fast-paced gyration and all-round enigma that colours contemporary Afrobeats records, so much that one should be anticipating similar sounds in his upcoming Breezy album, slated for release this year.
