In line with its resolve to support young and talented individuals, who seek knowledge in the creative industry, Mandiba Media in collaboration with the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation, organised a five-day free training workshop in Awka, Anambra State.

Held at the Kenneth Dike E-Library, the Re-discover Yourself training, which ended yesterday, covered sessions in different aspects of the creative industry, including cinematography, editing, content creation, radio and TV presentation/production and online PR. The intellectual session also created platform for experts to share tips on how to run a successful media venture in Nigeria.

Aside from the initiator Frances Olisa-Ogbonna of Kiss FM Lagos, other facilitators at the event include Rexx jideofor, Ejikeme Kasie, Michael Alonge, Onabanjo Omoyeye and Ijeoma Ndukwe.

Speaking on the motive behind the initiative, Olisa-Ogbonna said, “following the dearth of mainstream media practitioners in the Southeast and the fact that these days certificates are no longer enough to earn a living especially immediately after leaving school, there’s need for young people to acquire extra skills to hone their abilities. So, this platform was created to serve this purpose; to equip young people with skills to succeed,” she said.

The training, according to the broadcaster, “is very important to young persons and the young at hearts as it provides opportunities to acquire new skills in media business; the gains are too numerous because we worked with reputable media experts.”

On the choice of Awka for the maiden edition of the project, she explained, “I chose to flag off this year’s edition, which is the maiden edition, in Awka due to availability of sponsors and partners such as Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo, who always has the interest of Ndi Anambra at heart. He keyed into the program very fast, so, it was just normal that I start in his home state. However, we plan to hold similar event in Abia State by September,” she noted.

From all indication, the Re-Discover Yourself empowerment program has come to stay, as the organisers plan to make it a yearly event.“We won’t stop till joblessness is reduced to its barest minimum in the Southeast in particular and Nigeria in general.”
