Mavin Records unveils Boy Spyce
Despite successfully unveiling two new acts within the past one year, acclaimed music record company, Mavin Records, has continued its apostolate of uplifting the Nigerian music scene with young and vibrant voices. And with its latest signing, a Lagos-bred singer known as BoySpyce, it affirms its objective, breathing in fresh air into the industry.
Born Ugbekile Osameke, BoySpyce debuts with a self-titled EP, which soars for its songwriting and soothing melodies. From the first song on the EP titled Dreams, to the fifth and final song titled Destiny, the young Mavin crafts a poignant pace that provides an underlying soothing feel in this record.
Overall, the Lagos-bred singer steps out with character, as his vocals are directly tailored to emphasise passion, while his lyricism spins with street-esque intimacy and youthful swagger.
On how he began music, the singer reminisced: “When I was nine or 10, I used to watch my step brother compose with his band. I liked what they were doing. It sparked an interest in me and I started writing songs since then. I had always had a feeling in my heart that I would be signed to Mavin Records. I will never forget how Don Jazzy sent me a message on Instagram on Christmas Day.
“It was Christmas morning and I had no new clothes. I was just upset. So, I was sad. And when I got his message, I doubted it at first. However, after confirming that it was him, I screamed. I could not believe my eyes. My mum and sister ran outside and when I showed them, my mum told me that everything was going to be fine and that was the beginning of a new journey for me. And that morning I cried.”
