Towards inspiring and equipping Muslim women with the right mindset to help create a better version of themselves, the youth wing of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society, NASFAT has organised a three-day Sisters’ Retreat.
The yearly programme witnessed the convergence of over 200 Muslim women across the country and overseas. Speaking during the symposium themed ‘Beyond the Veil’ tagged ‘#EKO2023’, the National Youth Wing Ameerah of the Society, Hajia Kafayat Oyewo-Oyelere, said that the event is to re-awaken our sisters on the need to be spiritually, mentally and physically healthy, work hard and strive to be better versions of themselves.
“This year’s event is aimed at encouraging the youths, especially the female Muslims to break all barriers, not relent, not be subjected to ridicule and to see the hijab as an injunction from Allah.”
According to her, the theme of the event is borne out of the need to break gender stereotypes. Awosipe further said the retreat would safeguard the modesty and dignity of the Muslimah.
Also, the Ameerah of Lagos Zone 2, Hajia Abosede Sidiqah Fasasi, said, the sisters’ retreat was a resounding success, fostering learning, growth, and sisterhood. “The retreat is well-equipped with valuable insights and a renewed sense of purpose for Muslimah who are ready to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.”
The guest speaker, CEO of Egret Media Africa, Mutiat Olagoke, urged the delegates to see themselves as individuals with a special purpose beyond the veil. She commended the organisers for creating a programme that encourages sisters to come together and discuss issues that contribute to the development of the lives of Muslim women.
A Principal Partner, Freedom Chambers, Barr. Ruqayyah Owolabi emphasised the importance of the retreat in reminding the sisters of the importance of being conscious of Allah (SWT) always in all their dealings and being more focused on the reason for their creation. She advised the delegates to fear Allah in their daily activities and strive to be exemplary Muslimahs in all aspects of their lives.
The National Financial Secretary of the Youth Wing, Hajia Arafat Bamigbade, highlighted the significance of the sisters’ retreat as a platform for training females who will impact society positively. She encouraged the delegates to make judicious use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the retreat, emphasising the importance of applying what they have learnt in their everyday lives.
Other activities at the retreat included health, marriage and Janazah sessions, providing the delegates with a well-rounded experience that addressed various aspects of their lives.
