The National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), under the leadership of its Artistic Director and CEO, Hajja Kaltume Bulama Gana, led the cultural delegation (artiste) to Japan, where they made a remarkable impact at the world expo held in Osaka.
The troupe embarked on this international cultural mission on June 22, 2025, as part of Nigeria’s participation in the prestigious global event. Their performance on June 25 captivated audiences with a rich fusion of traditional dance, folklore music, and theatrical storytelling, drawing enthusiastic applause from dignitaries, global delegates, and cultural enthusiasts.
Ambassador Abba Nuru Rimi permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment headed the Nigerian Expo pavilion and his mandate were centered entirely on coordinating Nigeria’s and the troupe presence at the global event.
While The Vice Commissioner General of the 2025 World Expo, Mr. Uragami Kenichiro, delivered the opening remarks. He praised the role of cultural showcases in fostering international understanding and cooperation. The NTN was commended by the Japanese official, his said, “we felt as if you’ve taken us on a tour of your country with your performance.”
His remarks underscored the troupe’s success in promoting cross cultural understanding and showcasing the richness of Nigeria’s heritage on a global stage.
In another strategic move to preserve and promote Nigeria’s cultural identity, the National Troupe of Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF).
The agreement, signed by Director General of (AFIDFF), Ms. Malame Mangsha and Hajja Kaltume Bulama Gana, the AD/CEO NTN, focuses on cultural documentation, heritage preservation, and collaborative production of Troupe programs.
The troupe is the country’s officially recognised cultural ambassador. Its participation at the World Expo reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to global cultural exchange and highlights the beauty, diversity, and resilience of its artistic heritage.
