There are certain life stories that, if written and adapted into motion pictures, would smash the box office in Hollywood. Many autobiographies have been turned into movies to inspire people, the human race about life and struggles.

That of Lucky Ikechukwu Ujomu, the managing director and CEO of Luckybay Homes, would make movie lovers tear up.

The young real estate mogul was born in 1976 into a family of 12. With him, it was first about the struggle for survival, which started too early in life, perhaps earlier and worse than that of others who also have memories of difficult childhoods. The basic necessities of life were considered luxurious for him because of his family’s horrible state of penury.

The highest academic qualification he could obtain was the National Certificate of Education (NCE), usually awarded to those who attend teacher training colleges in Nigeria. But he never allowed the gloom in his situation to becloud what he saw ahead of himself.

The CEO of LuckyBay Homes began in the Nigerian real estate business in 2009 as a broker, and the rest is history. With passion, doggedness, determination, focus, die-hard spirit and taking steps towards his desired change of story, he started his first project in 2013, which took him five years to complete and sold off in 2018.

Recounting how far he has come with the help of God, which met preparations, the founder of LuckyBay Homes said it was not an easy journey to where he is now.

“I started as a real estate broker in 2009. I was able to save enough money to start my first project in 2013, but it was very tough because there was no support. It took me five years to complete my first project, which is a two-story, five-bedroom, fully detached duplex.

“I sold it in 2018 and that was my major breakthrough, and with the help of God, Luckybay Homes has grown into what it is today as one of the best real estate development companies in Nigeria. We specialise in building affordable luxury houses,” added the CEO of LuckyBay Homes..

He emphasised that, while he does not have a business mentor, he would like to meet former Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich, who he claims has a similar story of a humble beginning to him.

“I will pick Roman Abramovich; he’s a philanthropist and he has a large heart. He came from a poor background,” stated the owner of LuckyBay Homes.

In 2020, at the height of the debilitating effect of COVID-19’s attack on all spheres of human existence, including business, the LuckyBay Homes visioner created an empowerment fund for Nigerian youths, owing to the total neglect by the government to create opportunities for them.

“I know and I have seen practical examples that when youths are empowered, they can take care of their families and increase the country’s GDP, and in the long run, poverty will reduce drastically in Nigeria.

“Growing up in a very poor family, I know how difficult life is on the street, and what people are going through to survive. So, I think it is important that lifelines be extended to our youth,” added the CEO of LuckyBay Homes.
