ROCKSON AMAGO

SHORTLY after the end of the first quarter of the year 1960, a son was born to the family of Engineer Stephen Osarenye and Rachael Ekanem Madu (Amago). He was the first out of five children comprising two boys and three girls. He was christened Rockson Olisamedua. His early years were cocooned in the love of his parents as well as neighbours due to his very amiable disposition.

Rockson had good primary, secondary and university education. He sat for his West African School Certificate Examination at Nsit People’s Grammar School Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom, Akwa Ibom State. His success in the School Certificate Examination paved way for his enrolment in the Higher School programme at Holy Family College, Abak in 1977. He completed the programme at the Federal School of Arts and Science Ogoja, Cross River State, where he sat for his HSC examination clearing all his papers.

Rockson’s success in the HSC examination earned him direct admission to the University of Benin, Edo State in 1980 where he studied and graduated with a Bachelor Honours degree in History in 1983.

Armed with his Degree, he made his way to Lagos where he got employed as an Advert Executive in the Mail Daily newspaper, Orile-Iganmu, to kick-off his journey in the print-media world. Two years later, he landed a more lucrative job as an Advert Executive in the prestigious Guardian Newspapers Limited, Isolo-Lagos. Rockson laboured meritoriously at this job for the next five years until 1997 when he left. He remained true to his attitude, which had earned for him lifelong friendships.

Two years later, confident in the experience garnered in the print media business, Rockson teamed up with his close friend, Emmanuel Adegbe, to float AT Harbomash Media Consultants that offered specialised services in media relations and advertising. The company’s main target clientele were the Nigerian maritime regulators and operators.

He worked as a director in this outfit until he passed on in September 2015.
Rockson was married and has a 17-year-old-daughter, Stephanie Ngozi Amago.
