Determined to make a difference in the Nigerian music industry, especially the rap genre, the Sir Justine World (SJW) Entertainment signee, Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, who is better known by the stage name, AceBergTM, is set to release his debut body of work under the platform of the label, entitled, Far From Home, an extended play (EP).

Speaking on the inspiration behind the project, which will drop next month, the Abia State-born lyricist, who last year February, pen a recording deal with the entertainment outfit, said, “The kind of music I make is quite different from the type of music that we listen to in this part of the world. Far from home is the feeling I get any time I listen to any of the songs on the EP.”

On his foray into music, the Computer Science graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, said, “I started writing my own music at age 15. From that time, I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else; my passion for music was stronger than every other thing.

“Since my debut single, I have worked with a lot of producers and other artistes. It’s been fun and I’ve been improving every step of the way,” he added.

On the challenges facing younger artists in the industry, AcebergTM said, “The part where people compare you to other artistes is very challenging. It affects creativity but also improves versatility. So, it’s like a win-win situation for me.”

On his deal with SJW Entertainment and the experience so far, he said, “The label reached out to me on Instagram when they saw a freestyle video I made. Though I had put out some songs before then, that particular project was trying to understand my sound. Since then, it’s been all about working and understanding the music business. It has been a wonderful experience,” he noted.

He also corrected the impression that the recently introduced Amapiano music genre has become the new norm in the Nigerian music industry, adding, “I don’t think it’s taking the lead among other genres, though it seems to be a trending sound and every other artistes wants to try it out. Some people, including me, don’t think of it as the leading genre.”

Though not a complete rookie, AceBergTM’s skills and distinct rap style have earned him some laurels including the MTN Rap Battle, which was held at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in 2014.

Optimistic of taking his rightful place in the Nigerian music industry and the rap genre, AceBergTM revealed that with his style, which is different from the regular Nigerian rap game, he is ready to showcase to the world his creativity with a redefined craft.
