Just when many thought the Afrobeats sensation, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, known professionally as Adekunle Gold or AG had reached his peak, he has sent a clear message to the world that he’s only just getting started.
In a cryptic message (on Tuesday, March 3), which sent the social media into frenzy, especially his global fanbase, ‘the Fuji Tribe’, he suggested a massive 2026 takeover. The graphic designer, known for his evolving sound that blends highlife, afro-pop, and afrobeats, simply posted ‘Eja Nla 2026’ across his handles, leaving fans and industry insiders scrambling for clues on what next.
The phrase Eja Nla translates from Yoruba to ‘Big Fish’, a moniker that has become synonymous with the Sade, Pick Up crooner’s meteoric rise and his status as a formidable force in global music. This isn’t just a casual update; it’s a declaration, signaling that the artiste is not resting on his laurels but meticulously planning an even grander vision for the year ahead.
The timing is impeccable as the teaser arrived hot on the heels of what many are still calling the “Concert of the Decade.” Last year, precisely December 26, the Lagos Island-born prince cemented his legacy by becoming the first artist to headline a solo show at the newly revamped National Theatre (now the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts) in Lagos.
The sold-out show was truly a showcase of talent, bringing together an amazing 55-piece MUSON Orchestra that mixed classical strings with his unique Highlife and Fuji beats, all while his incredible live band, The 79th Element, kept the energy high.
The night was further electrified by surprise appearances from heavyweights such s Olamide, who originally dubbed him the “Big Fish”; Davido, and Fuji maestro Adewale Ayuba, as well as Tungba exponent Yinka Ayefele. The show was an undeniable statement, redefining what live music in Africa could be.
