Asake’s lonely at the top is Nigeria’s all-time longest No. 1 Song

Asake

Multi-Talented singer-songwriter and YBNL Nation recording artiste, Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake’s hit record – Lonely At The Top – has achieved the remarkable feat of being the longest-running number one song on the TurnTable Top 100, Nigeria’s sole chart system that takes data from radio, TV and streaming platforms.

The mid-tempo record, which touches on the loneliness and distrust that come from success, logged a 12th week at the summit of the chart. This makes it the longest number one song since TurnTable started aggregating data in 2019. Given this, Lonely At The Top, which is now a street anthem, now holds the record for the most weeks at number one on the chart with its 12th week at the summit surpassing Omah Lay’s Godly.

Recall that the superstar began releasing music in 2017, but had his big break in 2022 with the single Mr. Money. He enjoyed an unprecedented one-year run in the year, and extended his dominance with the release of his sophomore album, Work of Art, on June 16, which delivered multiple chart-topping singles and heralded his monumental performance at the iconic 02 Arena.

On September 8, 2022, the Obafemi Awolowo University-trained Dramatic Arts graduate released his debut studio album, Mr. Money with the Vibe, supported by the hit singles, Terminator, Peace Be Unto You, and a remix of Sungba with Burna Boy. The album was well-received by fans in Nigeria, as well as across the world, and broke several records globally. It debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200.

In September 2022, Asake announced the Mr. Money with the Vibe United Kingdom tour, selling out three dates at the O2 Academy Brixton in London, which saw several people critically injured during a crowd crush. Two people – 33-year-old Concertgoer Rebecca Ikumelo and 23-year-old security guard Gaby Hutchinson – later died of their injuries.

In December 2022, Asake was crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ by Audiomack after his debut studio album, Mr. Money with the Vibes, amassed over 330 million streams, and was subsequently announced alongside Kizz Daniel, Snazzy the Optimist and 1ucid as one of the most streamed and top trending artistes in February this year by the platform, after releasing the single, Yoga, in January 2023, which ventured into sega music. This was followed by the track 2:30 in April, and Amapiano with Olamide in May.
